Susan Barrett has extensive experience working with organizations to develop and carry out strategies for individual and organizational transformation. She is heavily involved in working with CEO's and executive teams to helpl them define, align and reach their organizational goals.
Susan has worked in a variety of client settings, including large, complex systems such as National Steel, Harley Davidson, divisions of US Steel, and DuPont. She has also done extensive work with mid-size companies such as Grady Property Management, ReMed Rehabilitation, Thomco Insurance, Florida Lift Systems, Doyle Electric, Fantasy of Flight, and others. Susan has worked with public sector and non-profit clients including Arlington County's Office of Technology and Information Services, as well as their Departments of Personnel, Environmental Services, Public Works, Support Services, Human Services, and the School Board. She has also worked with the Federal Departments of Defense, Treasury, and Energy, and the Jewish Council for the Aging.
In these systems, she has designed and facilitated organizational change efforts, primarily through coaching organizational leaders to achieve breakthroughs in their organizations. Included in these efforts are strategic planning, vision, mission and goal development, process redesign, teambuilding, and interpersonal skills development.
She is qualified to administer and conduct feedback sessions on the DISC Profile and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. She uses these instruments in her consulting work as to prompt discussions of the role of leadership in creating the culture, systems, and processes necessary for world class organizations. She also uses these instruments in counseling individuals, couples, and families. In addition to these applications, she also offers the DISC Profile to employers as a means of predicting the success of a potential hire
Prior to her work in the consulting field, Susan held internal line and staff positions for the Department of Energy. She was responsible for creating and developing training and orientation programs; developing education programs for consumers and state and local governments; advising senior management on outreach activities and helping them develop management and leadership skills.
Susan earned a BA at Western Maryland College and a MS in Applied Behavioral Science, with a concentration in Organizational Development, from Johns Hopkins University. She is the President and co-founder of Potomac Consulting Group, Inc, based in Bethesda, Maryland.
